keyboard freezes during boot

Postby migamu » Mon Feb 07, 2011 3:56 am

Hello

I am new to using PM so maybe someone can help me out. I boot with the PM cd, and I can use my keyboard to select the options on the first screen. I select the default option and then the bootup starts. After the first two lines, it asks for selecting screen size by pressing enter or space. Once I select a screen size the bootup resumes and as soon as the PM file is found, the keyboard lights start blinking and become unresponsive. I can not input anything from my keyboard, whereas the mouse works fine. Going through the forum, I haven't found any solution. So if someone can help me out with this problem that would be great.

By the way, I am trying to rescue a Compaq Presario desktop that has missing/corrupt startup config files using PM. The keyboard and mouse are also from compaq. Also let me know if more information is required.

Thanks

Dear migamu,
This is the first time ever I hear about PM asking for the screen size.
What version of PM is this? And what are those two lines?
The keyboard lights blinking indicates a so-called kernel oops (kernel failure). Such an oops indeed freezes the system.
Anyway, on the boot menu try Failsafe Menu > Failsafe Settings.

Thanks Dick for your suggestions. i did try the failsafe settings, but nothing worked. At the end, I just got another keyboard which uses USB and now everything is working fine. The PM version I have been using is 5.9.

Thanks Again, migamu
