Kernel edd=off

Postby BlondMM » Thu Jul 16, 2009 7:50 am

Some older computers halt during the boot process with the message 'use edd=off'. Now I manually adapt the grub4dos menu each time to enter this parameter. Could you permanently append 'edd=off' to the kernel command line or does this remove functionality?

Keep up the good work!

You can rebuild the iso yourself:
http://partedmagic.com/documentation/131-how-to-remaster-the-iso-file.html

Add the edd=off parameter to each kernel line in menu.lst.

If you have Parted Magic on an USB drive, you can just change that file.

@ Patrick:
Shouldn't:
Code: Select all
mkisofs -R -b grldr -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -o pmagic-custom.iso new_iso

be changed to:
Code: Select all
mkisofs -R -b grldr -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -V "Parted Magic" -o pmagic-custom.iso new_iso

So the grub4dos based iso has a label too?

Of course I can rebuild the ISO. But thanks for the tip.

As mentioned I always adapt the grub menu myself. You can also add 'edd=off' when using grub menu and press 'e' to review the commands.

But the request still stands: will you add it permanently to future versions (not for my sake, but for others who don't have the knowledge of syslinux or grub).
