Not booting on a Toshiba Stellite 1135

Postby alainm » Tue Oct 06, 2009 2:02 am

I liked very much this new partedMagic :)
it booted very fast on my desktop, but it does not boot at all on my toshiba 1135. Using version 4.5

I booted gparted CD with: Forcevideo, vesa, 1024x768
With pmagic it loads vmlinuz and stops ater writing "ready"

What do you suggest to use manual mode or to help debuging it?

Try:

It might be a kernel bug.

That one has just the same behaviour :(

But I found a way that works: On the boot menu, I choose "7: Failsafe settings" which boots to a console. Then I issue the command "startx" and it runs just fine, no extra settings...

Now I have 2 questions:
1) what is the difference?
2) How can I help to make PartedMagic better by debugging this? I have reasonable Linux experience but little X setup experience, but I can do test under someone guidance :)

When you boot the CD, press <TAB> when you have selected "7: Failsafe settings", then remove consoleboot to boot straight in Xorg:
Also remove one of the following options too:
Code: Select all
acpi=off nolapic nopcmcia noscsi nogpm consoleboot nosmart nosshd nosound

When it hangs again (lets say after you removed acpi=off), you can select the first menu item the next boot and add the parameter to the line (acpi=off in this example).

@ Patrick:
MENU LABEL ^7. Failsafe Settings
has two times noapic.

It is working now :) :)

The simplest change it to add "acpi=off" to the first and second options:
"1. Default settings"
"2. Live with default settings"

I have already seen lots of boot disks needing this option, would you consider including this as a fix for the next release? please?

Same problem today was with the new HP ProBook 4515s.
How i fix it?
I just select '5. Alternate graphics server', then press keyboard button 'tab', then 'space' and enter code 'acpi=off' and it is boots. ;)

Have you tested the version at the link above: <http://beefdrapes.partedmagic.com> ??

When I tested on my toshiba, it already has that option built-in :)

Thanks for link, it's works well by default, now no need to choose alternate graphics server and write acpi=off. :)
